| Minato Mirai 21 - “glows” |

“Minato Mirai 21” literally translates to “port future 21” and came to life in the 80’s after about two decades of planning. With Yokohama being the second largest city in Japan and a major international trading port, it’s no wonder they chose to name it “Port of the Future” for the “21”st century.

I’m enjoying this view of the #MinatoMirai 21 #skyline coming to life from the tip of the #Yokohama International Port Terminal (aka Osanbashi Pier), slowly glowing brighter and brighter as the sun sets behind the #cityscape and dusk turns into night as a ferry passes by. In the center, you can see the Landmark Tower and the Cosmo Clock 21 Ferris Wheel. If you do make it out here, the Osanbashi Pier is an architectural piece of artwork of its own that the architects of the project named “no-return pier” with a fluid, curved, and circular surface.

| Hikawa Maru - “transpacific beauty” |

It was Japan’s Golden Week, and our stroll through the Yamashita Park was extremely crowded and packed with visitors from all over Japan. But crowds or no crowds, as you walk along the waterfront, you will no doubt stop in your tracks to admire this massive #ship: Hikawa Maru.

She serviced between the Yokohama <-> Vancouver/Seattle line from in 1930-1960. Now she continues her life as a museum with a 1930’s interior.

| B&W (Red) Light District |

After exploring Ameyoko, a market street aka “candy shop alley”, we stumbled our way down a red light district with many “club” greeters in suits scouting for clients. This street is just southwest of the Ueno Station.

Taito, Tokyo is more of an “old Tokyo”, also more of a “working class”, lower rent, and with Ueno Park having one of tokyo’s largest homeless populations. There’s definitely a different vibe from this district compared to other busy districts in #Tokyo.

| Sensō-ji Temple |  ||”cornered”||

I went for a late night cruise on a bike to the #Sensoji #Temple grounds. As the night progressed, I was joined by the most beautiful midnight sky for this shot.

Sensō-ji Temple (a Buddhist Temple) is Tokyo’s most ancient temple located in #Asakusa, Taito, #Tokyo, #Japan. It was originally built in 645 to honor the Goddess of Mercy, Kannon, and then rebuilt after it was destroyed in WWII.

The story/legend goes that in 628, two brothers fished a statue of Kannon from the Sumida River, and each time they tried to return the statue back to the river, it somehow kept coming back to them. Many locals, Japanese travelers, and tourists alike come here for worship and visits due to its significance and popularity from the Edo era.
